MEMS – Startups are they working?

MEMS – IPO’s are a sign of good health!

Posting MEMS News for MNX allows me to see the world of MEMS and the changes that take place daily –  A few days past I was pleased to read and post the article in EE Times written by Mark LePedus “Gyro vendor InvenSense files IPO”.  If this is a sign of good things are in store for MEMS start-up companies, then let’s hope that SiTime and others will follow this trend.

I have know Steve Nasiri since he joined our team at NovaSensor, I believe in the late eighties and can say that Steve is very creative.  He knows how to generate business!  I am sure that the competitors mentioned in the registration statement on Form S-1 (ADI, Bosch, Epson, Freescale, Kionix, Murata, Panasonic, Sony and ST Micro) have often wondered how InvenSense could offer their “MotionProcessing solutions” at such a low cost.  For them they must cringe and find ways to convince customers that price is not the most important factor when providing for the mass markets.

At the same time the benefactors of this business model…the companies that actually fabricate and provide all of the needed support to ship these wonderful MEMS devices must enjoy the additional business it brings.  Lets not forget the end-users of Nitendo who have no idea about MEMS but must think… how does this work?…as they wheel and spin the MEMS devices in their Wii Motion Plus accessory.  It is all great for us MEMS folks and as they say…let the games continue with the successful IPO for Steve and others to come!!
